Project Description

When remodeling their old, 2-story farmhouse and adding on an addition, the homeowner thought it was the perfect time to replace the older air-source heat pump and air handler that was used for the home to a geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water system. Along with the cost-saving benefits of installing a geothermal heat pump, coupled with their rural electric cooperative’s (East Central Iowa) policies that allowed for low operating costs, upgrading to a Enertech geothermal system was a no-brainer. Now the homeowner has low utility bills, year-round comfort, and lower heating and cooling energy usage.

Installation Details

Additional ductwork was required throughout the remodel and addition to ensure proper distribution of heating and cooling. A 7-ton, horizontally bored loop field and an electric water-heater and desuperheater (hot water assist) tank was installed, allowing up to 40% savings on hot water and up to 70% reduction on monthly heating and cooling bills.

Savings

Estimated Annual Operating Costs: $343 in heating, $100 in cooling, and $119 in hot water for a total of $562/year
