Affordable Creek View Apartments
Canandaigua, NY
Project Description
Creek View Apartments Phase II is a 72-unit affordable family housing development in Canandaigua, New York, showcasing an integrated high-performance building approach. Supported by NYSERDA programs and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, the project demonstrates how advanced building design and innovative mechanical systems can deliver durable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective affordable housing.
Installation Details
The installation features a centralized Enertech variable-speed water-to-water geothermal heat pump system that provides 100% of the building’s heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. Each building is served by a slightly oversized vertical bore field—approximately three 400-foot boreholes for one-bedroom buildings and four 400-foot boreholes for two- and three-bedroom buildings—to maintain stable entering water temperatures and support longterm performance. Factory-charged heat pumps using low-GWP R-454B refrigerant reduce refrigerant leakage emissions by approximately 97% compared to the distributed mini-split systems used in Phase 1.
Equipment Installed
Savings
$36,779 per year when switching from Air Source Heat Pumps used in Phase 1 to Ground Source Heat Pumps and Solar PV used in Phase 2.
