Project Description

Casey Scranton is a geothermal installer in central Illinois. He and his father, John, both had expressed interest in getting PV solar. Casey said, “We decided to start our solar journey because it was a good opportunity for our company and our homes. The efficiency, technology, and incentives have come a long way. We thought we needed to consider what solar represents, which is an advancement in technology and an opportunity we couldn’t miss out on. And, we can’t wait to see how it pairs with our geothermal system.”

Installation Details

Since Casey already has a vertical loop, 4-ton geothermal system installed in his house, his energy load was much smaller which allows for fewer panels. Casey chose micro inverters due to shading spots on his roof, which allows only the shaded panels to turn off rather than the whole array. Casey chose DPW racking for the panels. Casey also noted that he plans on naturally progressing towards other energy-efficient technologies such as; batteries for energy storage and additional solar modules to achieve net-zero living.
