Youth Development Center Powered By Geothermal
Greenville, IL
Project Description
The Simple Room, founded in 1983, is a non-profit youth development program serving the Greenville, IL community. This program was created to help kids from kindergarten through high school by giving them access to a safe space, tutoring assistance, activities, recreation, and more. A new facility was constructed and equipped with geothermal heating and cooling in 2018. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it’s the “simple” things that matter regarding the kids, volunteers, and employees’ comfort. The geothermal system also helps this non-profit with its low operating costs and 25-year life expectancy. This enables The Simple Room to allocate more resources to benefit the kids and the community.
“Saving on our power bill means we can take that money we would have spent, on a very high power bill, and use it towards our programing, use it towards our mission.”
— Laura Stine, Executive Director
Installation Details
When The Simple Room’s aging building needed replaced in 2018, Enertech geothermal heat pumps were chosen to provide year-round comfort with an attractively low operating cost. Two ZT units work independently to cover the gym and common areas with forced air heating and cooling and a WV unit handles radiant heating.
